Workers' Compensation

In Georgia and many other states, the only remedy for an on the job injury is workers’ compensation. As a result, the statute dictates all aspects of your case including medical treatment and weekly benefits(compensation) for your injury. There is not a lot of flexibility in the statute so it is important to consult with an attorney as soon as possible. There are limitations on the amount of income received and the methods to obtain medical care.
It is essential that the injury is reported to your supervisor, manager, or human resources representative immediately. If medical treatment is needed, request to see a doctor on the posted panel immediately. All too often employee/claimants will “ wait to see if it is going to pass or if rest will "handle it"and miss an opportunity to immediately describe how the injury occurred, identify any potential witnesses and allow the supervisor to observe you immediately after the accident.
This is valuable information for your attorney if your employer denies or controverts the claim. Employees need a knowledgable attorney to describe each type of benefit available and assure that benefit is received promptly and with any applicable penalties if the benefit is not provided as the law provides.
